2009 Camp Workshops

Morning: (you will select three and be placed in one)

Rocketry - Make a rocket from a soda bottle

Wildlife and Nature-Play wild games, hiking, and identifying plants and trees and animal that are found along the way.  Create nature craft, learning about birds and the kinds of boxes we could make for the birds homes, catch, identify, and release insects. Campers will learn the impact humans have on the earth and how we can change our habits to help the environment.

Pond Critters and Crafts- Explore Elk Lake's critters to see what calls the lake home. Learn about pond life and create crafts based on the animals we find.

Belt Buckle Creations- Using a variety of materials campers will create belt buckles which they can then use on a belt they make during the afternoon leathercraft workshop

A Taste of Italy-Participants will experience the culture of Italy during this workshop.  They will learn about the customs and traditions, taste the food and play games.  Participants who complete the three day workshop will receive a Certificate of Pizza Perfection.

Trees + Me = Forestry- Participants will explore the forest surrounding the lake, identify trees, learn how trees are helpful to the environment, and what we can do to keep the forests healthy.

Beginning Fishing-Campers will fish from the pond.  They learn how to bait a hook, identify fish caught and release them back to the pond.

Shooting Sports-Campers may take the opportunity to participate in air rifle, air pistol, and shotgun.

Advanced Canoing and Boating-Supervised by lifeguards, experienced boaters and canoers will explore Elk Lake.  (must meet the swimming requirments)

Campers At Training-Learn the basics of being a good counselor.  Improve your communication and leadership skills. Required for all Campers at Training (CAT).  If you are interested in becoming a camp counselor, sign up for this workshop.  Must be age 14 by January of the current year.

Afternoon Camptivities:  (no selection is needed for the afternoon, campers will just rotate between three activities during the afternoon)

Shooting Sports

Swimming

Boating

Handicraft

Leathercraft

Line Dancing

Others may be added prior to camp.

Campers will also have scheduled Rest and Refresh period during the afternoon.  They will be able to relax in their tents and take showers.
